Do you appreciate salt?

Chances are you see and use it so often that you take it for granted.

But there are more than ten thousand uses for salt, and it has always held a place of importance in daily life.

At one time salt was so valuable and rare that it was used as MONEY in fact the word salary comes from the word SALT. During early Roman times, each soldier in Julius Caesar's army was paid a portion of his earnings in salt. That quantity was known as

his SAlaRIUM or SALARY. The phrase "not worth his salt" has a similar derivation or origin. It is an expression of criticism. Someone who is "not worth his salt " is not worth his pay!
